Fun Poems

Limerick
There was an Old man with a cane
Who many perceived as insane.
He’d sit all day long
Just singing his song
Til’ his neighbors would shout and complain.

Roethke Poem
I had a possum, it wasn’t my pick,
Playing dead was his one and only trick.
Everyday he’d just lie on the ground,
Motionless and without a sound.

I had an antelope, he was the best,
He would run ‘round all day without rest.
But whenever he stopped and hungered for food,
He would always be in such a bad mood.

I had a koala, so soft and cute,
But when I would talk, he’d remain mute.
Sleeping and eating made up his day,
Your koala is far more fun, I pray.

I had a bunch of animals, what fun!
They kept me company from moon to sun.
But when it comes time for them to leave,
For their presence, I shall surely grieve.

Apology Poem
I’m sorry that
I ate your banana.
The one you left
On the countertop.

I was hungry,
You see,
And the cupboards,
They were bare.

I swear I’ll
Buy you more,
But it was a
Delicious and healthy snack.

Between Breakfast and Lunch
It’s after breakfast, but not quite lunch.
In the meantime, I’ll think of things I’d like to munch:
Like a strawberry Pop Tart,
A banana cream pie,
A whole box of chocolate,
Now that’s a sugar high.
A pizza from Costco,
A Twinkie,
A cake,
A hot dog,
A burger,
And maybe some steak.
A pot of spaghetti, just enough for two,
An apple,
Some chips,
And a pack of Oreos, too.
A cupcake,
Some candy,
And basically anything sweet.
Right now all these things are sounding pretty good,
So I’m going to cut the list short and fix something to eat.

Rainbow Steps
The path ahead seemed rather perilous,
But I was feeling quite adventurous.
Just one step, two steps, three steps, four,
With each new step came colors galore!

They came in pairs and left in twos,
Colors quite beautiful, that much is true.
Red, orange, green, and blue,
Purple and indigo were there, too.

These colors revived me on my quest,
And refreshed me when I needed rest.
As my destination came into view,
Happiness in me only grew.

As I peered down from the very top
I was pleased to know I did not stop.
This view was gorgeous beyond compare.
I’ll take the stairs more often, I swear.
