Smile Through the Rain
By Alyssa Urayanza
I've always been a disappointment.
I've always been a no-good fool.
I've always been someone to hate on,
Because the world is just that cruel.
I've never been somebody's first choice.
I've never been somebody's precious friend.
I've never been somebody's shoulder to cry on.
When will this ever end?
Even if it hurts,
Even if there's nothing but pain,
I'll just keep my head up high, now,
And smile through the rain.
On both the good days and the bad days,
It's only ever been me.
Through both the good days and the bad days,
There's something I've come to see:
It doesn't matter if no one needs me.
It doesn't matter if I can't be strong.
It doesn't matter if I'm always by myself,
It doesn't matter if no one else comes along.
The sun will rise again tomorrow
And shine it's light across the sky.
The sun will rise again tomorrow,
So, for now, I shouldn't cry.
Because even if it hurts,
Even if there's nothing but pain,
I'll keep my head held up high, now,
And smile through the rain.
My whole life I've been looking down,
Viewing the world from behind a glass.
I spent days upon days wondering
If today should be my last.
Everything was just out of my reach,
Always slipping past my fingertips.
Everything was pitiful and undesired
That seemed to pass through my lips.
No matter what I say or do,
In their eyes I will always be the same.
So, I've decided to cut my ties
And play my own game.
Even if no one needs me,
Even if I can't be strong,
Even if I'm always by myself,
Even if no one else comes along,
The sun will rise again tomorrow
And shine it's light across the sky.
The sun will rise again tomorrow,
So, is it okay if I cry?
If there's one thing that I've learned
Throughout this short existence of mine
Is that I'll be fine alone,
Even if the sun doesn't shine.
Even if the rain is falling
And the clouds have all turned gray,
If I just keep on smiling,
I'll never lose my way.
The rain doesn't always fall from the skies,
Instead they drip from our eyes,
But even when there is nothing but pain,
Just remember
To smile through the rain.
This is a blog full of words. But not just any words, magical words that can create a brand-new world if you let it. Who knows, you may just find yourself in Wonderland.
